Teacher of the Year
2023: Melissa Giering
Mrs. Giering is our 2022 Teacher of the Year as well as the previous 2006 Teacher of the Year. She is a Live Oak Alumni and graduate of Northwestern State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education. She has been in the field of education for nearly 25 years. One of her favorite quotes is, "They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel" by Carl Buechner. Every year she strives to make her students feel cared for, comfortable, and confident in their abilities. Her goal is to encourage, inspire, and empower her students by making what can be a very complicated subject seem simple. Her love of math is evident each day in the classroom. Math can be interesting and cool too...just look at the Fibonacci Sequence!
2022: Gary Mitchell
Mr. Gary Mitchell was both our local and Livingston Parish Teacher of the Year. Mr. Mitchell came to Live Oak in 2014 and teaches Social Studies, in particular World History, AP World History, and AP American History. Mr. Mitchell attended Grand Valley State University and taught for over 13 years at Baker High school before moving to Live Oak High. He enjoys his classes and displays his enthusiasm for teaching each and every day with his students.
